Dean Lewis (born Dean Lewis Grant Loaney on 21 October 1987 in Sydney, Australia) is an Australian singer-songwriter known for his emotional pop ballads and recognisable voice. He achieved international breakthrough with his debut single Waves (2016), which was widely featured in films and television series around the world. His first album A Place We Knew came out in 2019 and brought him hits such as Be Alright and 7 Minutes . With his second album The Hardest Love (2022) and the later The Epilogue (2024), he confirmed his status as one of the most successful Australian artists of recent years. Dean Lewis writes music that often explores themes such as love, loss and personal growth.
About the music
His breakthrough single Waves is a melancholic ballad in which he reflects on how the intensity of life can fade over the years. The track is carried by acoustic guitar and a build-up that culminates in a compelling chorus.
