About the music

Ilse grew up in a reformed family in Almelo. After a conflict, the family fell into poverty and the children had to find jobs for themselves. Ilse attended Christian MAVO and MMO (Middelbaar Middenstand Onderwijs). Ilse came to work in a shoe shop. In 1998 she was able to trade this job for a professional singing career. She left for Nashville, US in 1998 to record her first album, called 'World of Hurt'. The song 'Not So Tough' became a hit in the Netherlands.

In 1999 Ilse flew to America again to work on her second album. After a year of radio silence, she released her new album 'Livin' On Love' in November 2000. This album pushed the country genre somewhat into the background and brought the pop/rock side more to the foreground. The album was not as successful as 'World of Hurt' but still achieved platinum status.

In 2001 Ilse DeLange began the 'Livin' On Love Tour'. She played theaters and concert halls in the Benelux. In the same year she also won an Edison for 'Best Dutch Artist of 2001'. In 2002 Ilse left for America with her partner, Bart Vergoossen, to work on a new album.

In 2003 the album and the single of the same name 'Clean Up' came out. The album was not as successful as the previous albums but did achieve gold status.

In June 2006 Ilse released a new album called 'The Great Escape'. The album reached platinum status in August. Meanwhile, Ilse was already working on her next album, called 'Incredible'. Since February 2008 she stayed in Göteborg, Sweden to write and record new songs.

In September 2008 Ilse's new single 'So Incredible' came out. This song ultimately became her first number 1 hit. In October 2008 her album 'Incredible' was also released.

In 2010 the album 'Next to me' came out. This achieved gold status and charted high in the Dutch iTunes Store. In 2012 the album 'Eye Of The Hurricane' appeared, in which the song 'Hurricane' became a top 10 hit.
