Biography
The Kooks is an indie rock band from Brighton, England.
The band is named after the eponymous song by David Bowie on the album Hunky Dory. The four members know each other from Brighton Music College, where they all studied. There they decided to form a band in 2005. It soon became clear that a successful formation had been born, as The Kooks' success grew quickly. The band's music was soon picked up via the internet. The first single from the debut album Inside In/Inside Out, released in January 2006 (more than a million copies sold in the United Kingdom), was Eddie's Gun. This ultimately reached 35th position in the English charts. Sofa Song and You Don't Love Me followed as singles.
About the music
The band's recognition also grew internationally. In the Netherlands, the track Naïve reached the Single Top 100 without much promotion, but with considerable airplay. The track Always where I need to be was a 3FM Megahit in week 15. The band performed at Parkpop, Lowlands and Pinkpop in 2006 and 2007, among others. On Sunday 6 July 2008 they will perform at Rock Werchter.
The successor to Inside In/Inside Out was released on 14 April 2008 and is called Konk, named after the studio where both 'Inside In/Inside Out' and 'Konk' were recorded.
