How to read a fingering diagram
- Numbers — which finger: 1 index, 2 middle, 3 ring, 4 pinky.
- ○ — open string: play it.
- ✕ — don't play this string.
- Roman numeral on the left (V, VII) — the position on the neck where the diagram starts. Roman, so you won't mistake it for a finger number.
- Vertical lines are strings, horizontal lines are frets.
