A tab (tablature) shows you exactly what you play without needing to read music. Six lines represent the six strings, and numbers on them tell you which fret to press. You read from left to right and simply play along — that's why tabs have been the favorite way guitarists pass on riffs and solos for decades.
Tabs are essential for everything a chord chart doesn't capture: the opening riff everyone recognizes, the melodic intro, the bassline under a verse, or the solo that makes the song. Where chords accompany a song, a tab writes it out note-for-note — so for real guitarwork, add the tab.
