The pitch per note is exact (string + fret in standard tuning E A D G B E; 4-line bass tabs are played as bass). The rhythm follows the spacing between numbers, since ASCII tabs don't capture timing precisely — lower the tempo to play along, use Count In for a countdown click, and Loop A–B to repeat a tricky section.

How do you read it?
Six lines, high to low
The top line is the thin high e string, the bottom is the thick low E string. Each line starts with the string letter and a |.
Numbers are frets
A 0 is the open string, a 3 means the third fret on that string. Numbers stacked vertically are played together (a chord).
Dashes are space
The farther apart the numbers, the longer the pause between them. Multiple blocks stacked play in order.

Frequently asked questions
Does it sound exactly like a guitar?
No — it's a simple synth pluck, designed to hear the pitches and flow, not to mimic a real guitar. For the full experience with audio, tempo and looping, our ProTabs are available in the Soundslice player on the song pages.Why isn't the rhythm quite right?
An ASCII tab doesn't capture timing precisely: the spacing between numbers is approximate. The player follows that spacing as closely as possible, but for tight rhythm you need a real tab editor with note lengths (like Soundslice). The pitches are always correct, though.Does it work with other tunings?
The player assumes standard tuning E A D G B E. If you write a different string letter on the bottom line (for example D| for Drop D), that string tunes along. A tab with four lines is automatically played as a bass tab (G D A E, an octave lower). Capo tabs play a couple tones lower than they would with a capo on — that's normal.Does my tab go anywhere?
No. Playback happens entirely in your browser using the Web Audio API. What you paste stays on your own device.
