Acdc

AC/DC was formed in Sydney in 1973 by Malcolm Young. This guitarist came from a musical immigrant family from Scotland.

Malcolm wanted to start a new rock band and also asked his younger brother Angus to join the band.

Later named AC/DC. The name AC/DC (alternating current-direct current) was engraved on mother Young's sewing machine.

The first concert took place on 31 December 1973 at the Checkers Club in Sydney. The band played mainly covers, but also made a few original songs that later appeared on record.

The songs I Can Sit Next to You Girl and Rocking in the Parlour were released on record in 1974.

The band changed members so often that Malcolm was sometimes forced to take up a different instrument.

In the autumn of 1974, their first album was recorded, called High Voltage. The band then consisted only of Bon Scott (vocals), Angus and Malcolm.

The big breakthrough came with the album Powerage in 1978. With the necessary bass work, they could take the audience to higher realms. The group toured throughout America and became famous worldwide. In 1980, singer Bon Scott died from excessive alcohol use. He was only 33 years old and was replaced by Brian Johnson.

The members live very far apart from each other. Johnson in the US, Angus in the Netherlands, Malcolm in England, Rudd in New Zealand and Williams in the US.
