Biography
Stevie Ann, the stage name of Stéphanie Struijk (Roggel, June 24, 1986), is a Dutch singer and singer-songwriter who made her debut in 2005 with the album Away From Here. The album was well received and earned Stevie Ann a Zilveren Harp. The Limburgian singer's second album came out in the autumn of 2007 and is titled Closer To The Heart.
About the music
Stevie Ann began making music at a young age. First on piano, but later on guitar as well. After secondary school, she attended the Rockacademie in Tilburg. She left the academy in her second year.
Stevie Ann's debut album Away from Here was released in September 2005. The album contains 12 songs written by Stevie Ann. The track The Poetry Man, released in December 2005, received airplay on various radio stations, including 3FM. The song reached 12th position in the Mega Top 50 in early 2006. The single is an acoustic version of the album track.
In her still young career, Stevie Ann has already won two important awards. She won an Essent Award in November 2005, a prize for young and promising artists. A few months later, in February 2006, she received a Zilveren Harp. At the 3FM Awards 2006, Stevie Ann was nominated in the Best Newcomer category.
After various festival performances in the summer of 2006, Stevie Ann began a theatre tour in October 2006, playing 14 venues across the Netherlands. She also performed as support act for English singer-songwriter James Morrison at Amsterdam's Melkweg on 20 November 2006.
The single One Year of Love was released in October 2006. With this track, Stevie Ann reached a high position in the Mega Top 50 for the second time. The song ultimately reached 18th position and stayed in the chart for seven weeks. The album Away from Here, re-released in November 2006 with a bonus CD, reached fourth place in the album chart.
Since the summer of 2006, Stevie Ann has also had a fanclub. The Stevie Ann Fanclub was founded by two enthusiastic fans. The fanclub offers Stevie Ann's fans a free membership, which allows members to participate in a forum, share photos of Stevie Ann, and view other media such as articles and reviews.
During the Pinkpop press conference on Wednesday 28 February 2007, it was announced that Stevie Ann would perform at Pinkpop in 2007. This was the first time the singer performed at the Limburgian pop festival. For the 3FM Awards 2007, Stevie Ann was nominated in two categories: Best Female Singer and Best Album (Away From Here).
