Biography
Turin Brakes is a British band born from a childhood friendship between Olly Knights and Gale Paridjanian. The two met at primary school and began making music together in the late nineties in Balham, London. Their first songs emerged from informal jam sessions and appeared on the EP 'The Door' (1999). Via Anvil Records and later Astralwerks they worked towards their debut album 'The Optimist' (2001), which was released worldwide.
The band built its fanbase with rock and alternative pop-rock songs, where their guitar work became a recognisable trademark. With 'Ether Song' (2003) their reach grew considerably, followed by further albums such as 'Jackinabox' (2005) and 'Dark on Fire' (2007). About the music
They started a band and recorded the songs they played during jam sessions. A number of these songs appeared on their debut EP 'The Door' in 1999, which was released only in the U.K. The label Anvil Records took care of the rest.
A year later came their EP 'State of Things', which also saw release only in the U.K. Not until May 2001 did a worldwide-released full-length album arrive on the label Astralwerks. This came after they had made a third UK-only EP. With 'Ether Song' in 2003, the band gained more recognition and with it a larger following of loyal fans.
Last year they took their success to greater heights with the album 'Dark on Fire', which has established them more firmly in the music world.
