Aerosmith

Aerosmith was founded in 1969 in Boston.

Steven Tyler, then a drummer, saw the band perform and was completely sold. Tyler auditioned and took his place in the band as singer. With the sharp guitar playing and somewhat artistic voice, a first album quickly came out featuring the song Dream On. In the seventies, Aerosmith grew into one of the most popular rock bands in America.

The heavy drug use by Tyler and Perry took its toll from the mid-seventies onwards. They earned the nickname Toxic Twins. Joe Perry left the band in 1978. He was followed by Brad Whitford. The band continued making albums, but the quality was well below par. In the mid-eighties came the turning point. The band kicked into gear and Perry and Whitford returned. In 1984 Aerosmith made a gigantic comeback with the album Permanent Vacation.

In 1986 they broke through in the Netherlands through a collaboration with Run-DMC, with whom they recorded a remake of Walk This Way.

Aerosmith signed with Sony in 1993 and received a record contract worth 30 million dollars. They still owed something to their former record label Geffen. Instead of taking the easy way out, they made the best-selling album ever: Get a Grip. Geffen raked in a lot of money. Later Aerosmith made a greatest hits CD under Sony to do it all over again.

The band was operating at a low level before announcing a cover album, Honking on Bobo, in 2004. After a world tour they also visited the Netherlands at the Arrow Rock Festival in 2007.
