Editors

The first performances took place in the area around Wolverhampton, Birmingham and Stafford. When the band discovered that a band called Pilot already existed in the 1970s, they changed their name to The Pride. Under this name they made their first demo, with songs such as "Come Share The View" and "Forest Fire".

They put these songs online and received positive responses. As things began to go well, the band decided to use yet another name: Snowfield. During that period the drummer was Geraint Owen, who was later replaced by Ed Lay.

In the autumn of 2003 the four band members finished their studies and moved to Birmingham to focus entirely on the band. The Back Room In 2004 there was considerable interest from record labels. However, the band waited for an independent record label, so they would have freedom in making an album.

At the end of 2004 the band signed a record contract with Kitchenware Records. Because they saw the contract as a new beginning, they decided to change the band's name to Editors.

The year 2004 continued for the band as the opening act for Oceansize and The Bravery. On 24 January 2005 the first single Bullets was released, of which 500 copies were made. They were produced by Gavin Monaghan and all these copies sold out within a day.

Bullets reached number 34 in the UK charts. The next single, Munich, came out in April and reached number 22. The third single was Blood. On 25 June 2005 the debut album The Back Room was released. It reached number 13 in the UK charts in its first week and sold 17,627 copies in that first week. The album went on to sell nearly 1 million copies.

Because the band now gained real recognition, it was decided to re-release Bullets and Munich. The same happened later with Blood. The Back Room was released in the United States only on 21 March 2006. There Munich was the most important single. They performed in 2005 at Lowlands, Pukkelpop and as the opening act for Franz Ferdinand. In 2006 they took the stage at Rock Werchter for the first time. They also performed at Pinkpop in 2006.

In the summer of 2006 the band played some new songs: Weight Of The World and Bones. An End Has a Start Russell Leetch at Eurockéennes 2007. The band members travelled to Grouse Lodge, a studio in Ireland to record the second album.

The band chose Garret Lee as producer, who travelled with them. The songs were mixed at Olympic Studios by Cenzo Townsend. The album An End Has A Start was released on 25 June 2007 and brought the first single Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors. This song was later chosen as VPRO's Song of the Year 2007.

In the United States the album was released on 17 July. The second single is An End Has a Start, followed by The Racing Rats. This single became the first single by the band ever to reach the Dutch Top 40. After the release of the album, Editors embarked on a tour through Europe, visiting the Netherlands six times.

On 6 June 2007 the band performed at the Melkweg (Amsterdam). After that the band appeared at Lowlands 2007, followed by two consecutive concerts in Tilburg and Amsterdam (this time Paradiso). In 2008 the band travelled to the United States for a tour, with Hot Hot Heat and Louis XIV as the opening acts. After this tour the band performed several concerts in Europe.

On 12 March 2008 the band was at another venue in Amsterdam, this time at the Heineken Music Hall. Because virtually every Dutch concert sold out within days, an extra concert was scheduled at the Paard van Troje (The Hague, 29 November). Musical style Editors is often placed alongside the rise of English indie bands at the beginning of the 21st century. The band is often compared to Joy Division and Echo & The Bunnymen. The English press also calls Editors the English answer to Interpol and draws comparisons to Bloc Party.
