Biography
Herman Brood was born on 5 November 1946 in Zwolle and became one of the most distinctive figures of Dutch nederpop and Dutch rock. Through his band The Moans and later Cuby and the Blizzards – from which he was expelled due to drug use – he found his way to Herman Brood His Wild Romance. With this band, he scored hits in the late seventies such as 'Saturday Night' and 'Never be clever', through which he also belonged in the indorock sphere. His albums Street (1977) and Shpritz (1978) marked his breakthrough.
The nineties brought collaborations with artists such as Henny Vrienten and Van Dik Hout, with songs that showed Brood's charismatic core was not subject to fashion. About the music
After three years he joins the band Cuby and the Blizzards.
When the record label discovers he is using drugs, he is kicked out of Cuby and the Blizzards. In 1975 he briefly joins the band Vitesse, but after their debut album he leaves again. When a cafe owner helps Herman Brood after he loses his syringe, a friendship develops. Van Dijk becomes Brood's manager, and together they form the band Herman Brood & His Wild Romance.
The debut album Street (1977) is well received. 'Saturday Night', a single from the second album Shpritz (1978), becomes a hit. Eventually an American tour follows. The American tour is not a success, and the new album Go Nutz (1980) does not perform well. Reason enough for Herman Brood & His Wild Romance to call it quits.
In 1985 he marries Xandra Janssen.
He jumps from the Hilton Hotel in 2001.
