Biography
Nickelback is a Canadian post-grunge band formed in 1995. The name comes from the nickel (coin), which Mike Kroeger often had to give back as change to customers during his job at a coffee shop. The core of the band originates from Hanna, Alberta. The group now works from Vancouver, British Columbia.
About the music
Nickelback's breakthrough was helped by the fact that Canadian law required a certain percentage of music on the radio to come from Canadian bands.
The single Hero from the Spiderman film soundtrack was sung by Nickelback's Chad Kroeger and Saliva's Josey Scott.
Nickelback released the album Silver Side Up on September 11, 2001, which marked their international breakthrough. That morning they were in their tour bus just 10 miles away from where Flight 93 crashed. For some, the first single from this album, How You Remind Me, is a kind of ode to the Americans who lost their lives, and it became the most played song in the United States throughout 2001 and much of 2002.
In February 2005, the band announced that drummer Ryan Vikedal had left the band for unknown reasons. That was the official statement, but in a later interview Vikedal revealed that he felt pushed out of the band because he wasn't "the kind of drummer" the band needed. This surprised Vikedal and many fans since he had helped make albums like Silver Side Up and The Long Road successful.
In March 2005, it was announced that 3 Doors Down drummer Daniel Adair would be the new drummer.
The new album All the Right Reasons was released on October 4, 2005. The first single is Photograph, the second Far Away, the third Savin' Me, and the last Rockstar.
