Brian May The guitarist of the band. Actually, it's Dr. Brian May, since he earned his doctorate in Astrophysics. His first band, Smile, he formed with Roger Taylor and Tim Staffell. After that band dissolved, he went on to form Queen.

Roger Taylor The drummer of the band. He was first the drummer in the band Smile, and then formed Queen together with Brian May. He can also play guitar and sing. This became clear when he continued as a solo artist after Freddy's death. When Brian May toured with Paul Rodgers as Queen + Paul Rodgers, Roger returned.

John Deacon The bassist of the band. He joined the band a year later, in 1971. Also known as "the quiet member" of Queen, because he was almost always silent: no interviews, barely moving on stage, and he was the only Queen member who never sang along. (He did mime on several music videos).

The band thus emerged in part from the band Smile. This band was formed by Brian May and his good friend Tim Staffell.

They needed a drummer, and when they put out a call, Roger Taylor came along. He passed the audition and the band was formed. When Smile broke up in 1970, Staffell left to join the band Humpy Bong. Mercury left his then current band Wreckage and joined May and Taylor, and the name changed to Queen.

Then Mike Grose joined as well. He was the bassist of Queen for one month. After several temporary bassists, there was John Deacon. In this line-up (Mercury, May, Taylor and Deacon) the band remained until Freddy's death. Queen is one of the most successful bands ever, if not THE most successful.

Thus the album "Greatest Hits" is the best-selling album of all time. The album "Greatest Hits II" ranks at number seven. But not only their albums were extraordinarily good. Their performance at Live Aid in 1985 was voted the best live performance of all time. And if that wasn't enough, they were also voted the greatest British band of all time in the United Kingdom.
