Biography
Turisas is a Finnish folk metal band formed in 1997 that specializes in symphonic and power metal with traditional folk elements. The band around frontman Mathias "Warlord" Nygård creates an epic sound in which guitarist Jussi Wickström's chords blend with violin, accordion and percussion. Their lyrics deal with Vikings, battles and ancient Scandinavian stories — a theme that returns on albums such as Battle Metal (2004) and The Varangian Way (2007).
The combination of folk metal and symphonic metal makes Turisas unique: orchestral arrangements meet heavy guitar power. With bassist Hannes "Hannu" Horma, drummer Tuomas "Tude" Lehtonen and accordionists, they deliver a full, theatrical sound that you instantly recognize.
