How to start reading tabs

A tab (tablature) shows which fret to play on each string — you don't need to read sheet music. For beginners, short repeating riffs are the best practice material: you learn to read the six lines, train your fretting hand and instantly hear a recognisable piece of music.

Take it slow: pick a riff you know, play it note for note at half speed and only build up tempo once the fingering feels smooth. The tab player on every song page plays the tab back at your own pace, so you can hear whether you're on track.
