Biography
In 1992, Jimmy Pop Ali (real name: Jimmy Franks) and Daddy Long Legs founded the group Bang Chamber 8. Under this name they recorded one demo, after which they changed the name to The Bloodhound Gang. In 1994 they recorded their first demo under this name, called 'The Original Motion Picture Soundtrack to Hitler's Handicapped Helpers'. Thanks to this demo they received a contract with Cheese Factory Records. In November of that same year their first EP came out, titled Dingleberry Haze. In March 1995 they signed a record deal with Columbia Records. At this label the album Use Your Fingers was recorded. After the release, Daddy Long Legs and M.S.G. left the band. Bassist Evil Jared Hasselhoff and DJ Tard-E-Tard joined as replacements. After this tour, Columbia Records dropped the contract and Tard-E-Tard and Skip O'Pot2Mus left the band.
About the music
In 1996 the band signed with Republic Records. DJ Q-Ball, Spanky G and Lüpus Thünder (on turntables, drums and guitar respectively) joined. Under this line-up, the album One Fierce Beercoaster was recorded. From this came their first major hit, titled Fire Water Burn.
In 2000 the next album arrived, Hooray for Boobies, with two more hit singles: The bad touch and The ballad of Chasey Lain.
In 2005 the most recent album was released, called Hefty Fine. From this came two smaller hits, Foxtrot Uniform Charlie Kilo (F.U.C.K) and Uhn Tiss, Uhn Tiss, Uhn Tiss.
The Bloodhound Gang is known for its humorous, obscene, offensive, sexual lyrics and music about taboo subjects (for example incest) and uses metaphors and comparisons, such as:
"You came twice last year like a Sears catalogue"
"Times New Roman, you know the type"
"You and me baby ain't nothin' but mammals / So let's do it like they do on the Discovery Channel"
"Love, the kind of which you clean up with a mop"
"So put your hands down my pants, and I bet you feel nuts"
Their most famous song is probably "Fire water burn" with the chorus: "The roof/The roof/The roof is on fire/We don't need no water let the motherfucker burn/Burn motherfucker/Burn". A cover of Rock Master Scott and the Dynamic Threes' 1985 hit "The roof is on fire". The Bloodhound Gang's version was also used in the film Fahrenheit 9/11 in 2004, as it was a popular song among American soldiers fighting in Iraq.
In 2003 their DVD One fierce beer run was released, documenting the tour of the same name in 1997. In 2005 a new album appeared, Hefty fine, which was originally to be titled Heavy Flow, but that was dropped because Moby has a song with the same title.
The Bloodhound Gang has toured in Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Japan, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Russia, Scotland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and the United States.
